I have to admit I write about wine with a certain hesitation. Wine lends itself to the kind of florid bullshit that gets endlessly mocked in popular culture. Not to say I couldn’t act that pretentious if I put my mind to it, but it’s hard to really sell that snobbery if you are self-conscious about it.
Besides, my impression of Olney Winery is that they are not a snobby, pretentious winery. They named one of their wines For Your Eyes Olney, for crying out loud. Their chardonnay is a perfectly likeable and altogether enjoyable wine. I suppose I could try to swish it around my mouth and try to find telltale notes of melted asphalt. But I think it is enough to say that it is a wine I look forward to drinking, and I can’t praise it much higher than that.
