7 Locks Brewing
I have never been to Munich for Oktoberfest and I don’t ever plan to, if I’m being honest. It has a lot to do with my aversion to crowds and my fear of hanging out with college students now that I’m in my mid-40s.
But I can get a small slice of Oktoberfest here in Rockville now, via the torturously-named Rocktobierfest. Rocktobierfest started in 2017 to mark the 60th anniversary of Rockville’s sister city relationship with Pinneberg, Germany. Now it looks like this will be an annual event.
One of the vendors at Rocktobierfest is 7 Locks Brewing, so I’m getting a preview of the big event by having 7 Locks’ Oktoberfest. This Märzen-style beer has a smoky, caramel flavor that goes down easy even when the dog days of summer are bleeding into September.
I suppose I should be drinking this out of a liter stein to get the full Oktoberfest effect. But that’s about three cans in one sitting and when I put it that way, boy does that sound intimidating. Also, as mentioned, I’m not in college anymore.
