When I was a little kid, I used to love watching M*A*S*H. Because what kid doesn’t love Korean war comedies?
One of the details that I latched onto was Radar O’Reilly’s love of Grape Nehi soda. I don’t know why, but this factoid stayed with me well until I was an adult. I always wanted to try it, but at some point, I decided it was just a bygone Midwestern thing. M*A*S*H was set in the 1950s after all.
Then I went to the North Market Pop Shop a couple of months ago. When I saw their selection, I knew that they would have Grape Nehi. I bought it, I brought it back to my apartment, and I popped it open. Then I realized that I was just going to be drinking grape soda. It’s good grape soda, but I had built it up so much that I probably was destined to be a bit disappointed.
Still, it’s nice to have the chance to fulfill a life-long dream. Not all goals have to be big to be satisfying when you achieve them.
